Hiking to Lover Leap Waterfall in Nuwara Eliya
The journey to this enchanting waterfall is an adventure in itself, taking you along winding roads, gravel paths, and narrow foot trails that meander through vibrant tea estates and ascend steep inclines. Just 3 kilometers from the heart of Nuwara Eliya, the waterfall tumbles gracefully from a height of 30 meters, its waters sourced from the streams flowing down Piduruthalagala, Sri Lanka’s highest peak. The water cascades over rugged granite ledges, eventually gathering in a reservoir that supplies the nearby region with its fresh drinking water.
In the dry season, the waterfall flows with a tranquil serenity, its gentle stream a peaceful sight. But when the rains arrive, the falls take on a new life, bursting with energy as they splash and froth over the rocks, creating a dramatic spectacle.
While reaching the base of the waterfall is a relatively simple trek, the climb to its summit is a true challenge. To conquer the ascent, you’ll need not only a strong sense of determination but also a trusted companion or a guide from CCT Sri Lanka to help navigate the more rugged terrain. The effort is undoubtedly rewarding, however, as the panoramic views from the top are simply breathtaking. From this vantage point, you’ll be mesmerised by the sight of Nuwara Eliya city and the houses nestled at foot of Galway Heights.
