SS Rangoon Wreck – Scuba Dive Site – Unawatuna

This SCUBA dive site best accessible from Unawatuna. Rangoon wreck sands upright in a beautiful white sandy bottom. The front of the ship looks a Viking ship and it is 60 m long. Apart from the wreck, spotted are Jelly fish, Javanese Rabbitfish, Grey Snappers and Bluefin Trevally. (Updated on : 2 June 2019)

We know its 1800 tons heavy steamer was built by Samuda Bros of London in 1863 and its captain was G.F Henry. This ship seems to have had routine trips from Suez to Calcutta.
