intro

Udawalawe National Park is one of the best places you can see wild elephants in Sri Lanka, even in midday. It is hundred percent guaranteed that you will sight them in this park. Herds of elephants can be seen along the river during the dry season which is usually between May and September. Bird life is also plenty in this park.

This national park was created to provide a sanctuary for wild animals after the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir on Walawe River. The park, which has 30,821 hectares, was declared as a National Park on 30th June 1972 under the Fauna and Flora Protection ordinance.

On Google Map, you could clearly see the route to destination, local excursions and tourist interests. To have a clear view click "  " and then un-click "  " irrelevant layers.
