Explore the historic heart of Kandy on a guided walking tour through colonial streets, bustling local markets, sacred temples, and important landmarks connected to Sri Lanka’s royal and political history. This relaxed city walk offers a deeper look into everyday life in Kandy while uncovering stories often missed by ordinary visitors.
Your guide will meet you at the historic Queen’s Hotel before beginning the walk towards St. Paul’s Church, a remarkable colonial-era church located beside one of the world’s most sacred Buddhist sites. From there, continue along the lively streets of Raja Veediya and Yatinuwara Veediya, passing through colorful vegetable markets, busy local shopping areas, and Kandy’s public transport district.
The tour also includes the historic Old Prison area, where your guide will explain the dramatic events surrounding the 1818 rebellion and the tragic story of Ehelepola Nilame’s family, one of the most emotional chapters in Kandyan history.
The walk concludes at the peaceful Asgiriya Temple and Museum, offering insight into Kandyan Buddhist heritage and monastic traditions. Guests may also stop for refreshments during the walk.
Early mornings and late afternoons are recommended for a cooler and more comfortable experience.
