Guided cycling tour across rural villages, wild nature and isolated ancient ruins

Experience the peaceful countryside surrounding Katunayake on a scenic cycling journey to Ganekanda Purana Rajamaha Viharaya, located just 13 km from Bandaranaike International Airport. Ride through lush paddy fields, quiet village roads, and rural landscapes while enjoying a perfect blend of nature, history, and culture.

Along the route, we pause regularly to relax and interact with local traders, craftsmen, and farmers, offering a glimpse into everyday village life and Sri Lanka’s warm hospitality. The gentle ride and peaceful surroundings make this experience both refreshing and memorable.

The temple itself carries a remarkable history dating back over 2,200 years. According to local history, King Walagamba sought refuge here during a South Indian invasion in the 1st century BC. Today, the temple remains an important spiritual site, while the rocky hilltop also features the remains of an 18th-century Dutch observation post.

Arriving in the evening, you will have time to explore the temple grounds before witnessing the monks’ evening rituals. A special personal puja is arranged for you, where blessings are offered through traditional Pali chants in a peaceful spiritual setting.

This cycling tour is more than a ride — it is a journey through Sri Lanka’s history, culture, and countryside.
