Intro

On the 19th September 1908 John Jackson left Sabang port in Philippine with 75 tons of extra coal. Her next intended destination was Colombo on the way to France. On the way, the ship encountered very rough monsoon weather, strong sea and heavy currents. That resulted captain William Green deciding to sail to Galle.

The voyage took twice as long as in moderate weather. And finding that the coal was running out Green was to make to Trincomalee on 25. When the land came in sight at 3.40 PM on 26 the course was again altered to north-west. At 6.40 PM the native boats in the Batticaloa harbour could have seen the ship. But on 27 morning Captain Green found that he was still about 1.5  miles away from Batticaloa on Brennus Shoal. The ship struck the Brennus Shoal and sunk. Now this is a colorful dive site and it lies very lose to SS Brennus.
