Originating from the royal courts of the ancient Kandyan Kingdom, Kandyan Dance (Udarata Natum) combines powerful drumming, graceful movements, acrobatic performances, and spiritual storytelling into one unforgettable cultural experience.

Performed to the rhythms of traditional instruments such as the Geta Beraya, Yak Beraya, Udekki, and Thammattama, the dancers bring ancient rituals and folklore to life through dramatic costumes, expressive gestures, and energetic choreography. The famous Ves costume, adorned with silver ornaments and elaborate headdresses, remains one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic cultural symbols.

Many performances also include thrilling fire walking and fire breathing acts, adding excitement and spectacle to the evening. Venues around Kandy such as the Kandyan Art Association, Lake Club, and YMCA regularly host these cultural shows for visitors.
