Join CCT Sri Lanka for a breathtaking Horton Plains trekking experience, guided by experts who bring the landscape and its stories to life. Located at an elevation of 2,100–2,388 meters, Horton Plains—also known as Maha Eliya—is one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic highland national parks.
This half-day trek takes you through montane grasslands, misty cloud forests, and ancient landscapes, leading to two of the park’s most famous highlights: World’s End, a dramatic sheer cliff drop, and the scenic Baker’s Falls.
The park also contains the origins of several major rivers of Sri Lanka, making it an ecologically vital watershed. Towering peaks such as Kirigalpoththa (2,388 m) and Thotupola Kanda (2,357 m) rise within the landscape, adding to its dramatic highland scenery.
Wildlife encounters may include Sambar Deer, rare endemics like the Black-lipped Lizard, and, for the lucky few, elusive leopard sightings, including the rare melanistic (black) leopard. The park is also home to the critically endangered Mountain Slender Loris, confirming its global biodiversity importance.
Beyond its beauty, Horton Plains is a living geological archive, with rock formations dating back to the Archaean era, offering a glimpse into Earth’s deep past.
