Looking for a serious highland hiking adventure in Sri Lanka? Trekking to Kirigalpoththa takes you to the island’s second highest peak at 2,388 meters, offering a remote, rugged, and truly rewarding experience inside Horton Plains National Park.
This is a full-day trek of around 20 km (round trip), starting near Horton Plains vehicle park. The trail is less crowded than World’s End routes, making it ideal for experienced hikers who prefer raw nature and solitude.
As you ascend, you’ll pass through misty cloud forests, open grasslands, rocky ridges, and small mountain streams. The terrain can be challenging in sections, but the changing landscapes make every step worthwhile.
At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views over Sri Lanka’s Central Highlands, often surrounded by drifting clouds and untouched wilderness.
