Experience the wild heart of Sri Lanka with a full day safari in Wilpattu National Park, a vast and untouched wilderness named after the many natural lakes known as “Vills” (විල්) scattered throughout the park. Unlike more crowded reserves, Wilpattu offers a more peaceful and immersive safari experience, with dense forest cover, open plains, and rich biodiversity.
Wilpattu is especially famous for its growing population of Sri Lankan leopards, making it one of the best places in the country for leopard sightings. During the seasonal fruiting of palu trees, the park also becomes a hotspot for sloth bear activity, offering exciting wildlife encounters for safari lovers. Elephants, deer, crocodiles, and a wide variety of birds further enrich the experience.
With CCT Sri Lanka, your safari is fully arranged from start to finish. You will enter the park through Eluwankulama or Hunuwilagama gates, guided by experienced jeep drivers who know the terrain and wildlife behavior, ensuring the best possible chance of sightings.
This full-day adventure allows you to cover a large portion of the park, making it ideal for travelers who want a deep and rewarding wildlife experience in Sri Lanka’s largest national park.

This park is teeming with wildlife, our guide was excellent at spotting wildlife and pointing out all of the different bird species. It took 2 full 12 hr safaris, but I got to catch a glimpse of the elusive leopard! We also saw sloth bears, elephants, boars, deer, monkeys and so many different bird species!

We booked a 2 week trip in Sri Lanka with Cross Country Travels and we went to 4 national parks on our trip (Yala, Udawalawe, Bundala and Wilpattu National Parks). Our family really wanted to see all of the animals that make up “Sri Lanka’s Big Five,” especially the leopard, so we told the Anu (the owner of CCT) about our wildlife-spotting wishlist in advance and he was able to give us great advice on which parks to visit, to be able to have the best chance of seeing the animals we were hoping to see. It was invaluable to have a local tour company to be able to advise us on where to go, since they live in Sri Lanka and have been to all of these parks many times. Anu had recommended going to Wilpattu National Park because of the high-density of leopards there and we are so glad that we went there, because on our second day of safari there we saw 2 leopards up close! CCT booked everything for us, arranged all safaris, park entrance tickets, guides, accommodation, etc. so all we had to do was sit back and enjoy our trip and take in all the beauty of the park and its wildlife. I recommend if you want to try and see a leopard to do at least 2 full day safaris with CCT, as they are elusive animals, but our guides were very professional and knowledgeable, so they found them for us. I would totally book a trip to visit the national parks of Sri Lanka with CCT again, they were very professional and make you have a stress-free and very enjoyable trip!
